Mirror, mirror on the wall…

Waterford Place is a beautiful, modern-looking apartment community on the outside. Wouldn’t you say? So it makes sense that its residents would want to make the interior decor of their departments just as great looking and stylish. Well, there are several ways that an apartment renter can spruce up there place. One way is to use mirrors as part of the decor.
Mirrors are a unique decorative choice. They have the ability to make your room look larger and they reflect a lot of light around the room, giving the appearance of more space. This is a great decorating tactic to use in small spaces. Large mirrors over sofas, mantles and dressing tables also reflect light so you have the added bonus of more natural light.
Here’s a decorating tip: Try hanging several small mirrors of different sizes and shapes together on your walls. By clustering them together, you are getting many of the perks of a large mirror while still giving the eye a variety of sizes and shapes to look at. Give it a try and post a picture of your stylish new digs to the Waterford Place Facebook page!

Alternative Ideas to Painted Walls

Many apartment complexes do not let you paint your walls, so spruce up your living space with these alternative ideas to make your pad more “homey”.
Wall Vinyl Decals – These unique and temporary alternatives can be found in many different designs, styles, and colors. You can add borders to the top, middle, or bottom of your walls in a variety of colors. You can also create faux murals or add a unique design to the corner of the room. Wall vinyl decals are simple to put up and quick to take down!
Folding Screen – Typically used in Asian decoration and as screens to dress behind, folded screens come in many beautiful and fun designs in a variety of colors as well as wood tones or stains. If you choose a wood toned screen, take that color you’d love on your walls and add it to your screen!
Fabrics – Fabrics add a fun look with textures and design! You can add it to the whole wall, cut into stripes, or maybe opt for a tapestry wall hanging. I would stick to one wall per room to be safe from looking overdone and running into clashing designs. You can attach fabric with tacks or push pins. Another way is to staple gun the fabric to a thin piece of wood so that you only need to put a minimal amount of nails into the wall in order to hang this on.
Picture Perfect – This traditional method of spicing up plain walls is a proven method for decorating. Choose your favorite pieces of art, or your own, and put them on your walls. You can use nails to hang framed artwork or art on canvas, or you could use double sided tape to add lighter work. Be careful with this, however, as this can leave residue on the walls. For tips on how to remove this, check out this link.
These are all great ideas that will add tons of character to your apartment. But, if you’re a dare devil and don’t mind the chance of getting caught, go ahead and paint your walls anyway! What is the worst that could happen? A scolding and you would have to paint your walls back to the original color.

No, we’re not racing horses here, but we do have our very own “Derby” and you can meet her here in this video! Derby is a 13 week-old chihuahua mix puppy that Waterford Place resident Melanie James Hubbs recently adopted from PetSmart. We love pets here…particularly smart, cute ones like Derby!

The Caribbean at Waterford Place

Most everyone (if not all) at Waterford Place agrees that it’s the best apartment community in the Louisville area. Residents love the it for so many reasons…one of which is the beautiful lake set in the middle of the property. The lake is now filled with gorgeous blue-green water that kind of reminds us of the Caribbean. All we need is a little sand and some fancy drinks with umbrellas sticking out.
If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Check out the video…
4 tips for lowering the cost of pet care

How much do you spend on your pet every year? Let’s see: there is food, immunizations, visits to the vet…and that’s just for starters. Pet care can get expensive, but it doesn’t have to break your bank account. There are ways that you can minimize the costs and save some money. For example…
Buying a bushel of gadgets to entertain pets is like getting a flat-screen TV just to watch Law & Order: awesome, but unnecessary. “People really overspend on pet toys,” says Dr. Gregory Hammer, DVM, past president of the American Veterinary Medical Association. “They’ll give a 5- pound dog 25 pounds of stuff.” Truth is, pets prefer basic toys and are more likely to play with an empty box than with a $20 animatronic mouse.

Final Fogelman Four (or Five)

Hey Fogelman folks…the 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament is wrapping up this weekend and if you’ve been following, you know that it has been ripe with upsets. As for the Fogelman Bracket Challenge, it’s still too close to call. There are numerous scenarios that can play out, each one resulting in a different winner.
Here is what we know…
- If Duke wins, Richard Call from Stewarts Ferry in Nashville, TN will be your 2010 Champion. Way to go, Richard! But don’t count your cookies yet…
- If West Virginia wins, then Jon Hawks will take the crown. I’m a Big East Conference fan, so I must admit that I’m in Jon’s corner. Jon, we’re not sure which apartment community you’re representing so if you’re reading this, make sure you drop us a note.
- If Michigan State wins the tournament, then Amanda Hill will be our official champion. However, because she is not officially a Fogelman property resident, she is disqualified from collecting any prize. Any prize would go to the first runner-up that is actually a resident. Sorry, Amanda. Maybe you should consider moving to a Fogelman community J
- And if Butler wins, well, here’s where it gets a little tricky. Because no one gave them a fighting chance at the beginning of the tournament, there is no clear cut winner at this point. It all depends on who they play in the Championship. If Butler defeats West Virginia in the title game, then Janelle Crandall from Metro 67 in Memphis, TN will walk away with the prize. If Butler defeats Duke, the title goes to Dani Soto from Hampton Woods in Shawnee, KS.
Good luck to each of the finalists! Don’t forget to tune into CBS to watch the tournament semifinals tonight starting at 6pm, and then the Championship game on Monday, April 5 at 8pm.
