Big East Brain Teaser

I might not have the best jump shot, but I’m pretty good at solving brain teasers and puzzles. They’re fun to do and they’re great brain exercises! If you have a minute, try to figure this one out and post your answer as a comment. I’ll put up the correct answer sometime next week. Let’s see who the real brainiacs of Waterford Place are!
The Wildcats, the Huskies, the Orange, the Hoyas, and the Cardinals are basketball teams in the Big East Conference. The Hoyas are in first place leading the Cardinals by three games. The Orange are ahead of the Wildcats. The Wildcats are behind the Huskies by one game. The Huskies are behind the Cardinals by seven games while still behind the Orange by three. What are the standings? (Including games behind). This is purely fictional of course.
Got Fossils?

Do you the difference between a brachiosaurus and a brontosaurus? Apparently the brachiosaurus’ front legs are longer than its hind legs. Who knew? I’ll tell you who…my four-year old daughter. Since the movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs came out last year, she’s been infatuated with the creatures. My wife and I found a beginner book on dinosaurs for her and now her nightly bedtime stories consist of random dinosaur facts and trivia.
If you have little ones (or even not-so- little ones), maybe one of these long-gone creatures can help put the “learning bug” in them too. They may be interested in checking out the new Dinosaurs Alive! exhibit at the Louisville Zoo over Spring Break. It sounds like something that kids would really enjoy. I know my daughter would. It might even make a great classroom fieldtrip. I just came across the press release and here’s what is says:
“The exhibit, which features 16 robotic prehistoric dinosaurs placed throughout the zoo, will be on display through the end of September. Kids will also love the replica dig site, where they can excavate dinosaur fossils.”
The press release says the exhibit opens March 1, however the website says mid-March. You may want to call them in advance to double-check. If you get a chance to take your kids, make sure to stop back and let me know what you think!
Bring Mardi Gras to You
Are you a fan of Fat Tuesday, but didn’t want to make the trek to Louisiana to celebrate? Not everyone has the time to get off work or the gas money to get there. That doesn’t mean you can’t have your own Mardi Gras moment at Waterford Place though.
Get in the kitchen and whip up something Creole or Cajun and have some fun. You can invite over your friends or just make it a family night.
What are you going to try and make? Feel free to share your recipe and Fat Tuesday experience.
Are You Going to Watch the Opening Ceremonies?

A Valentine’s Weekend in Louisville

It’s cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a warm Valentine’s Day.
You can start the weekend with a group of friends at Sully’s Saloon downtown to enjoy a few cocktails and laughs or you can catch the Valentine’s Show by the Louisville Chorus.
If you are looking for a nice romantic spot to take your date either Saturday or Sunday then why not try Seviche, Rivue, Jack Fry’s or Varanese. All have great food and offer a romantic atmosphere.
For those looking to have a musical Valentine’s Day in Louisville you can check out the Sunday Jam at Rubbie’s Southside Grill and Bar. This is where local musicians show up to play together and rock the house from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday morning.
Please feel free to share your Valentine’s Day plans and suggestions.
Super Bowl Sunday Is Upon Us
It’s going to be a Super Bowl Sunday like no other if both teams deliver on their true abilities. There is a reason that the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints spent the majority of their season undefeated. They are just that good. They dismantle teams like Ikea furniture. That’s why I’m excited to see what they bring to the field in Miami on Sunday.
So, let’s make our predictions. Mine is for the Colts. Yes, I know that many of you all will be going for the Saints, but there’s nothing like a little friendly competition. Who do you think will win? Feel free to share.
Going Green is Super
We’ll talk about who’s going to win the Super Bowl in a minute. Right now let’s talk about the party preparations. You’ve probably got the invite list handled, but what about the go green aspect? You can go green at any party, so why not for the Super Bowl?
Keeping your menu simple is one green suggestion. Throw on some hot dogs and chili and keep the paper plates to the minimum. Also, if you are drinking anything out of bottles and cans remember you can recycle. For more green tips click here.
Where’s Kanye When You Need Him?

That was a popular Facebook status and Twitter update last night as Taylor Swift not only performed, but took home Album of the Year at the Grammy’s. There’s no doubt that this young woman has talent, but her album did not beat out the competition based on merit. Personally, I think it is because she has become the sentimental media favorite because of Kanye West interrupting her at the MTV Video Music Awards.
My vote went for Dave Matthews Band’s “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.” It sums up the energy that DMB brings to a live performance, a live performance that they can pull off – unlike Swift. I felt bad for Stevie Nicks for having to sing her infamous song “Rhiannon” with Swift. She deserves better, as does, DMB. They should have won – there I said it.
I understand my opinion is just my opinion and I invite you to share yours as well.
